When During the Year Do Westies Shed Their Undercoat?

Right now, my Westie has been shedding more than usual, with minute clumps of hair (no redness, etc). She usually sheds during the spring before summer, so I was wondering if she might be shedding her undercoat now, or if she might be allergic to something in the house. Thanks!

I have a Westie, and I have never known him to shed his fur. He’s 5 years old, so i’m sure I would notice it. Are you sure she’s not allergic to anything?
I don’t think it’s overly concerning, I wouldn’t worry about it.
xxx Good luck finding the answer!

westies do not have an undercoat. if she is shedding more than usual, you should see your vet.

add- westies are not a double coated breed. no double coat equals no under coat.

My westie has never shed its coat, and does not have an undercoat. They do however have skin allergies at times, perhaps a close eye, and should it continue professional help is never a bad thing.

Dogs can shed (and do shed) anytime. They usually shed the most at the change from winter to summer because they do not need that thick coat when it is warm out. I have also noticed that it seems like my dogs (over the years, several dogs) also shed during the change from summer to fall, just not quite as much as in spring.

Anytime there is a change in temperature, your dog will likely shed. Unless it is one of the breeds that do not shed at all.
