Hi. I have a male toy yorkie his name is Koko and he is 4 years old. I was wondering if I can buy a westie and if they get along. If so what should I get a male or female?

There is no such breed as a Toy Yorkie. Yorkshire Terriers come in one size. But apart from that, if you have a male terrier, I suggest you look for a female because male terriers can be quite sparky and bringing another male, terrier, in, may lead to fireworks once the puppy becomes mature. Obviously you’d need to have your female spayed before her first season. There are never any guarantees that two dogs will get along – that’s up to you and how well you handle having a multi-dog household.

yorkies are normally very friendly i know i have one to! as long as you slowly introduce them to each other all should go to plan! also gender should not matter but if you do get a female keep an eye on them and maybe think about nueting sorry if i spelt that wrong. best of luck

Any breed of dog can live with any other breed, unless both aggressive breeds, in your case your fine. Get a female(spayed) just to be on the safe side, so they don’t fight to be the dominate male. With a female, they won’t fight, they will play and nip, but won’t purposely hurt the other dog.

My sister once had a Yorkie and a Westie and they got along very well. They were both males. However, the Westie was from a rescue organization and was elderly and had been abused. I think this put the much younger Yorkie in the position of being the caretaker and nurturer.
In your case, the dogs might not get along at first, but will eventually acclimate to each other. Dogs are pack animals so they should ultimately bond.

I have a Yorkshire terrier (male) and he is 5 years old and my west highland white terrier (female)she has 2 years but I spayed her and they get along just fine with no problem at all. I had the same problem I couldn’t decide which one to get a girl or boy, my Yorkshire had 3 years when I bought my westie now they play and sleep to together. So I recommend you getting a female(spayed)
