How Much Food Should I Be Giving My Westies,One Is 3 and the Other Is 2 Years Old.?

It depends on how big they are and what kind of food you’re feeding them. The person that said about 3 cups a day is right, to a point. If you’re feeding a "grocery" food like Pedigree, Beneful, Dog Chow, etc. Then yes, about 3-4 cups is right. If the first few ingredients contains corn, then you will end up feeding more because they aren’t getting all of the nutrition from it. If you feed a "premium" food like Nutro, Iams, Eukanuba, etc. then you can get away with feeding them just 2 cups. Those foods have little or no corn so your dog is digesting the maximum amount of nutrients. Also, remember, the feeding directions on the back of the bag is a great guideline. BUT, they always end up having you feed your dog a little bit more than what they actually need. They are in the business of selling food, so of course they want you to run out sooner and purchase more food.

The proper way to determine how much food to feed your animals, is by their weight, you should be feeding them a certain percentage of food by how big they are, But I do not know how to find that out, Westie’s are small dogs so you should probably feed them with a measuring cup maybe 3cups, or if they need more (A dog will let you know if they need more food!) and you should do this twice a day on a feeding schedule, say like 3cups at 7am and 3cups at 7pm. One of my dogs is not on a feeding schedule, my boxer is free feed and he eats when he is hungry, I fill a large (32oz) 1 1/2 and put a gravy mix on top, and he eats when he is hungry. The 8wk old pup is given 1 cup of food and that last her all day. Some dogs do not do this. Some dogs eat every last crumb in the bowl even if the bowl is very full, so you should know how your dogs eat their food, fast or when they are hungry and that should help you determine how much food you should be giving them, along with how often the food should be given.
