Does the Westie Scirt Cut Meaning the Hair Cut for Westies, Does That Grow Naturally or Does It Have to Be Cut

I'm not a groomer, but I'm fairly certain that look is achieved by stripping the coat along the back from the neck to the tail, and leaving the long coat (skirt) around the legs/belly.

Stripping is the proper way to remove the coat. But since most groomers won't strip terriers, you could have it clipped to achieve the same basic look.

Westies need grooming frequently. Maybe you mean skirt as in the hair from their sides that grows long? They're skirts do need to be trimmed sometimes, and they get the rest of the hair stripped. A groomer who knows what they're doing will just strip the dogs hair, its something you can do at home really easily. We used to call their skirts kilts if they were boys, because they're scottish….haha ok not funny :) .

i'm not quite sure what scirt is but westies do need grooming since they don't loose hair like most dogs and thier fur keeps growing.i use to groom my sons westie around the face, eyes.feet, back end etc every 6 weeks when her hair started getting to long in her eyes and other parts to keep her fur from knatting and getting clumps of dirt stuck to it. with regular clipping they stay nice and neat and fresh.

You can do hand stripping (and if you're not showing, I wouldn't bother)- If not, the dog's coat MUST be shaved- it's done similar to a schnauzer cut- you use clippers along the back and partially down the sides- and then you keep the skirt neat with scissors-

The dog must be groomed every 4-8 weeks.!

if you mean skirt- it will need to be trimmed weekly and brushed daily (twice if possible) along with their face and body. Some westie owners strip the fur short on the back, i dont like doing this, my westie finds it quite painful- so we have her back clipped and her face shaped with the westie head. We keep her body short all over now- shes a digger ^,^
