Since we rescued our dog in January, he’s an 8 year old Westie, he seems to like fruits and vegetables more than chicken and beef!
The other night, I dropped an apple slice on the floor, with a piece of chicken, and he stuck his nose up at the chicken and got the apple slice!
Is this normal for dogs? I mean, he eats his meat and dog food, but he likes fruits way more!
Yeah I think it’s normal. I have a 1 year old German shepherd female who is pregnant now and she loves fruit, salad, veggies, etc. She still loves meat and like normal dog food as well but she’ll eat anything which I like in her. But my 2 year old German Shepherd Male will only eat meat and maybe 1 veggie and thats it. He only goes for the meat and stuff. 
It’s totally normal, it’s just that not everyone has a dog thats like that and no dog is retarted/stupid if it eats veggies, salad, fruits, etc.

Kind of strange that he chose fruit over meat. Most dogs don’t like fruit. Lots of them like veggies though. My mom’s dog loves peas and broccoli. She refuses to eat fruit though.

Mine will eat fruits and veggies if they are covered in gravy. I have dropped some salad on the floor before and they eat it right up. They also love grass, though. I don’t know if it’s normal, but I’d say it’s pretty common.

Dogs are omnivores, not carnivores.
However, as good as fruits and veggies are you should make sure you know which ones are toxic for him.

Dogs typically won’t snub their nose up at meat, but dogs are also very keen about what nutrients they need. That’s why some dogs will eat grass even if they don’t have an upset stomach. Are you feeding him a good quality, well balanced food? There may have been something in that apple his body is craving that he’s not getting in his regular dog food.
My puppies love fruits and veggies, especially zucchini and blueberries.

It is great that he likes fruits and veggies. I have an Alaskan Malamute who loves his veggies and some fruit. According to our vet since they are healthy treats he is better off than dog cookies and it varies his diet. Just imagine eating the same meal every day for the rest of your life. Boring! We even have our Vets permission to give our dog a slice of pizza a month. Moderation as long as his main diet is the dry food we feed him.

If its not normal, I’m pretty sure it isn’t abnormal. My little Shih Tzu LOVES celery and apples. And my Cocker Spaniel would eat nothing but carrots if we’d let him. I think, like people, all dogs have their own preferences to what they like and dislike.

A dog prefering an apple slice over a piece of chicken isn’t abnormal at all.
Apples are sweet and crisp and crunchy and a ‘treat’ to the dog. Alot of dogs have sweet tooths – which is why so many dog treats are packed with sugar.
I can think of alot of things my dogs would rather eat than meat. Just like I can think of alot of things I would rather eat than health food.
