out and buy a puppy as we feel that would be so unkind to her memory,so we thought if we could rescue and adopt a poor little westie in need she would understand that, but easier said than done, despite days on the web we have still been unable to find a little one to love and care for.Are there any of you guys out there who know of a young westie who would like a loving caring never left alone good food and lots of hugs and kisses home?
i am so sorry for your loss as i lost my little bichon last year and it is heartbreaking please don't think you are being unkind to her memory by getting another dog i don't think she would mind as she wouldn't want you to be alone

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Its awful when you lose a pet in any circumstances. You would not be unkind to her memory, in fact she would love you to give your home to another pet just like her. Take your time and choose one that you take too straight away whether a rescue dog or new puppy. Time is a great healer, and a new dog will bring back the sunshine that you have lost. No one can ever take away your memories, and she will love you forever.
I hope you find another pet soon, and your heartache eases soon.
Regards.

Had pets and lost pets and know EXACTLY how you feel.
Did you try Petfinder.com or google Westie Rescue? There has got to be a Westie out there needing rescue. And try not to focus on the breed. There are some mixes who would give you back love also.
When you rescue one dog your rescue two. The one you take home and the one that comes from a shelter to a foster home to take it's place.

First of all my deepest condolences on the loss of your Westie. I totally understand how devastating that can be. Your best bet on adopting a Westie is to go to a Westie Rescue organization. You may have to be put on a waiting list or there may be one available to you right away. Try looking here to see if there is a Westie Rescue in your area:

P.S. I have a Westie-Poodle mix and absolutely adore the Westie antics. I can't imagine my life without her.

Whenever considering a new dog start with the AKC or other nation kennel club. They have links to the various national and state breed clubs and rescue organizations. They work together to police their own ranks and help keep you contact reliable breeders and rescue people. Be prepared to travel or be patient. Local animals from reliable sources are not always available. I would never, ever consider any other "puppy search engines" found on the internet. In my experience most of them are backyard breeders at best and puppy mills at worst. I always visit a breeder in person or by proxy and talk to multiple references.

So sorry for your loss – go through one of the breed rescue schemes mentioned, somewhere there's a little Westie waiting for you. Don't feel you are being unkind to your dog's memory by getting another one – it's the biggest compliment you can give her.
Good Luck

I am so sorry for your loss. I can tell you are grieving your girl. I lost my beloved Scottie several months ago. I've been in your position. When we decided to bring another Scottie to our home, we viewed it as our love for our little girl allowed our hearts to grow and be able to love another. It wasn't a "replacement" since our girl would always live in our hearts.
I hunted petfinder and Scottie rescue, but could not find a dog available. You may be finding this with Westie Rescue. Not every state has a rescue and many won't consider adoptions out of state. It is good to check with the rescues though and look daily. Some people with Scotties also have Westies, so widen your search to include Scottie rescues as well. They occasionally get a Westie. I found a couple of wheaten colored Scotties incorrectly called Westies on petfinder–but they were cross country for me with no out-of-state adoptions.
Also, consider contacting reputable Westie breeders. The dog we got was from our male dog's breeder. I really didn't want a puppy. The breeder had a young adult female she had kept for breeding purposes, but as she grew, the dog wasn't exactly to standard and the breeder chose not to breed her. Good breeders will take dogs back, so it is possible for a breeder to have a dog that the owners could not care for. These are still good dogs.
Good luck. The right Westie will find you. It may just take weeks or months, but the right one will find you.
