My 15 Week Old Westie Puppy Gets Good Food Has Been Wormed and Yet if Not Supervised Will Eat a Bit of His Own?

poo.Why does he do this and how can we stop him?We have had dogs from puppies all our lives but have never come across this problem before.

I know, gross huh? I've raised and shown dogs in obedience and show for 30+ years and after all those years with no problem, one of my dogs started to do that.
I also have a boarding kennel with a couple of dogs that as soon as they …poo, you'd think it was steak. Ugh.
All the crap (pardon the pun) that is supposed to help correct this, doesn't work. But here's what worked for me:
As soon as I let her out and she did her thing, she'd turn around to grab the poo and I'd yell "NO!" (I was inside, looking out the window with the window open so she could hear me.) You have to have good timing, as you don't want to yell at him and make him stop pooping (heh), so make sure it's when he is finished and starts eying it or going for it, that's when the "NO!" comes in. You can, of course, use the same method if you are outside with your dog. (In fact, those are golden moments. [g]) It didn't take too many times for my own dog to get the hint. Then: clean it up ASAP.
Now if this is something your dog does later, that is – not as soon as he poops – diligent cleaning up ASAP should also do the trick.
Good luck. :)

If you've never experienced this delightful habit before, count yourself lucky!

Loads of dogs do this and the jury's still out as to why. There are things you can add to a diet, eg. pineapple, or Accent, but for me, the ONLY remedy is to be there to pick it up as soon as they go. It's nothing to do with good food (although some say some food goes through only partially digested so it still smells attractive the second time round). I've had numbers of hounds, most of whom were fed the same diet – some did this, some didn't.

Dogs will eat their poop because it almost tastes better to them or the same as when it went down you have to buy this stuff that you put in your dogs food and it makes their poop taste really bad and that should fix it.

There are a lot of reasons dogs eat poop. And it is quite common. However, there may be issues that need dealt with. How is his own poop, solid? consistant? If his stool is loose, you may want to take him in to doctors, because he may not be absorbing his nutrients and be searching for more food. He could also be hungry? How much food are you feedind, in regards to age of dog and exercise routines??
You can try sprinkling meat tenderizer on it, that helped me. Also Ceasar Millan did an episiode recently on this topic and had some helpful tips if you can find that episode. But I would rule out health problems first, because my dog ended up having an obstruction in his stomach…which was causing him not to absorb the food, consiquently needed more food, and opted for poop. Now things are better. Good Luck and let me know if I can be of anymore help!

There is a cure to this problem – once a week put pineapple in his/her food.
This i promise you will stop him doing it.

EDIT: I have no idea why i have a thumbs down – look it up people and you'll see pineapple in the food does work.

Pretty much all pups have a fascination with poop, not usually their own, but it's something you have to let your pup know is not acceptable behaviour.

He has watched his mother cleaning out the nest and because he is an intelligent dog he is copying her.
Get some tinned pineapple or courgettes, then pulverise in a liquidiser or food processor and put this into a jar and keep it in the fridge. Add about two teaspoons of this into his food and this will make his poo unpalatable.

Meat tenderizer (MSG) or tomato paste on his food should stop this.
