Its My Very First Puppy, Anything I Need To Be Aware Of?
Oh And Im Just Wondering Is A Westie A Lap Dog?

As long as your pup is well socialized then there will be no problem when your dad returns.

Pick up a few books about puppy training, most of them will have the info you need to get through the troublesome times. I just got my first pup last year (Not my first dog though) and it was a challenge!

Westies aren’t generally lap dogs, they’ll cuddle up, sure, but they’re high energy terriers so not quite what i’d call a lap dog.

you should get him! your puppy will accept your dad just fine as long as he gets properly socialized good luck … oh and just a tip have you checked your local pound? you might see a dog there you like for a good 300$ cheaper and you would be saving his life!!!

well im sure you’l be fine but i would suggest that you get a female as your dad is asway for long periods of time he may get protective of you or your mum and when your dad comes back they’l be alot of testosterone flying about ;)

to me I like the Yorkie more. Westies are more for little kids looking for a play companion. They don’t like so much attention and all that. These have more of the terrier personality, digging, odor, hardy, stubborn. They have a strong tail that when you pull it doesn’t hurt. their fur only come in white. No these aren’t lap dogs.

Westies will be easier to train, lowshedding, though will dig. Yorkies on the other hands are great for teens or adults looking for a major and ultimate companion. They love being held. They will have the terrier personality a little, some digging and yapping. You’ll need to train and socialize this dog at an early age! These need daily grooming and a pro job monthly. they don’t shed or produce dog dander either. The yorkie too me is better because it has less terrier personality, affection, playfulness, and is hypoallergenic.

These are both great affectionate family dogs however, the Westie is a little smarter though while the Yorkie is hypoallergenic, Both would do great for you. They won’t hate your dad, they’ll just not like him as much.

    Supplies you will need:
    leash
    collar with tag
    food and water bowls
grooming firm metal bristled slicker brush
tooth brush and doggy Petrodex enzymatic edible toothpaste
    dog food
    chew toys
wee wee pads (the best way to potty train pups, I’ll show you how)
    treats

Training tips are that you should always use positive reinforcement, soft voices, and have lots of treats in hand.

To pottytrain your dog use wee wee pads. Place wee pads wherever you want it to pee. These pads release a scent which makes your dog want to pee/poo on it so yeah. Under it put a newspapers, gradually increase the numbers you put until you get to 5. Keep putting 5 newspapers under each pad. Finally take out the pad. Your dog should be trained to pee on newspapers.
