We got this dog at the shelter this weekend.They told us she was a Westie, but after researching the traits of a Westie, I know she can’t be full blooded. She has a long, thin tail, and only one coat, not two.
She needed groomed really badly, but when I brought her home and brushed her out, she still looked wispy as ever. Please ignore my boyfriend in the picture, he was being a total ham.

Thank you all for your quick responses! You’re right – she’s probably just poorly bred. She was a rescue dog, and I wasn’t planning on showing her or anything. Just loving her and having her as a companion!

i used to have a westie and when he was a puppy he only had one coat but he grew it out later on. she looks just like my westie. if it is a westie, you will love her because if you are sad they will try to make you feel better.

I agree – Westie mix, or a poorly bred Westie. My grandma bred show Westie’s when she was younger and i can definitely see that breed in this dog. Specifically the face.

There is a big difference between purebred and well bred. This looks like a purebred, albeit backyard breeder quality, westie to me.

What a cutie pie! I mean the dog too no offense to your boyfriend! Ya know yorkies tend to have those wispies around the ears otherwise she does look like a lanky westie. If I saw those ears with maybe a different coloring, I would think yorkie or silky terrier but that’s it. She has long legs for a westie. Anyhow she’s darn cute!

I want to say she is a west highland white terrier crossed with maltese, they both have white fur and long. The Maltese only has a single coat, were as the westy has a double coat. So she could have taken the single coat trait from one of her parents.
