Westie breeders and shelters in Mi?
Next spring i'm getting a westie. I want a purebred westie but i don't want to show or breed him. So if you know any *good* shelters or *good* breeders that sell their westies under $500 it would be perfect. Thanks. And what i mean by *good* is that all the animals are healthy and happy. The breeders don't need to be in Mi just close.
stay away from show breeders they sell pups that cost you $1000s later in vet bills..put a ad in your local paper…get a healthy one that way…

Why does it have to be a pure breed? What would make you go to a breeder over a rescue?

Please ignore 'Show breeders sell sick pups.' For some reason, this person is willfully ignorant and sells sick mutt puppies herself/himself, but yells at all of us for promoting good breeding practices.
Anyways, I'm in Michigan myself. I'd suggest you get ahold of the parent club, http://www.westieclubamerica.com/, as well as a Westie rescue http://www.westierescue.com/. Also here are Westies in rescue as listed on http://www.petfinder.org fanning out from Lansing, MI http://www.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?breed=West+Highland+White+Terrier+Westie&tmpl=&preview=1&exact=1&animal=Dog&preview=&zip=Lansing%2C+MI
When looking at any breeder, be sure you screen them. Here is a good breeder checklist that I reference: http://www.shihtzu-rescue.com/BreederChecklist.html Also take a peek at this one: http://www.dogplay.com/GettingDog/checklist.html#shortlist
I hope this helps you!
