AKC Westie Breeder in NY or NJ.?

Hi Guys,

I am interested in getting myself a westie. I wanted to know if anyone has experienced purchasing a pup from Holly Stellitano. She is on the AKC listing but her prices are pretty much high. Males are $800 and females are $700. I understand the dog is a purebred and AKC listed but how can I tell the dog is in good health and legit? Im afraid to put a deposit down so she can hold a pup for me but is it worth it?

Don’t bring any sassy comments as I am not interested in purchasing a dog from the store nor adopting or rescuing a pup just because of my own personal reasons.

Thank you!
Would this be consider legit?

Has anyone dealt with cvezdos@centurytel.net?
Her name is Cherie E. Vezdos-Lilje and she is in Ohio. She has westies for sale and I found her info on akc.org. Is she legit?
hmm?

AKC means squat, many more things to look for in a breeder than that. Just from googling her name I can tell she is a BYB, selling on puppyfind.com no champion parents and not even champion bloodlines (even bad bybs make this claim lol)

Find a real breeder if you do not want to adopt, certainly you are doing a good thing by avoiding a petstore but keep in mind you are also doing dogs a grave disservice by purchasing from a byb,

Your breeder will health test the dam and sire, SHOW her dogs, be breeding champions or darn close to it. Sounds like you have a lot to educate yourself on before purchase, please don’t be in a hurry. Getting a healthy dog from a fine breeder will very likely take some time.

http://www.westieclubamerica.com/regclubs/whwtcnnj.html that should be a good place to start looking for a reputable breeder, send some emails/make some phone calls and good luck!

ETA – also you can expect to pay at least 800 from a good breeder for a pet quality pup, more likely in the 1000-1200 range, sometimes even more. However you will likely be put on a waiting list so you will have time, it is worth it for a lifetime of breeder support this is absolutely invaluable to have someone who cares about your baby as much as you and is willing to be there to help you 24/7/365 for your pets lifetime, also you will have a solid health guarantee. Those byb health contracts are not worth the paper they are written on even if they claim years guaranteed.. good luck getting them to honor it. You will get a beautiful, healthy, mentally sound well socialized pup for a little more money. I am sure that is what you are looking for! =)

- No the second breeder you listed is shady as well, looks good right? Except they say the sire is a champion in the yes/no but if you go on to read it just says he has champion lines! Very common BYB tactic, they also say nothing about health testing and they are selling full registration! Good breeders will never sell fully registered pups to non show homes. I am not trying to be rude at all but good breeders do not advertise on puppyfind! They don’t need to advertise, you have to find them. Many many people have learned this the hard way, puppyfind is pretty much an online petstore where BYBs produce dogs and you have no idea what other breeds they are breeding (often times many) what the living conditions truly are, even though you see cute pics.. and the temperament of the dogs is not cared about at all.

Feel free to send me any breeder links you’re looking at!!! I can also be reached on aim at fordhamairhockey if you have any questions!!

That’s actually very cheap for a well bred puppy.

Check the westie club of america site for reputable breeders.

This link will give a good basis of questions you should be asking breeder. However your 1st most important for a westie is asking about their skin. The breed is by far the worst for having hereditary skin issues & allergies than any other breed. It is very prevalent in the breed & do NOT buy any westie where there is any medical history in the lineage with skin issues or allergies. That price is cheap & different prices for females/males is not a good sign of a quality breeder.

If you have never been to my kennel you do not have the right to call me anything but a breeder. I do not show because I gave it a try and found it to be way to compedative and time consuming. I back up all my puppies and my clients are very happy. Not all people want to spend over $1000 for a puppy and my puppies are $950 not $700 or $800. As for genetic testing when you mix 2 sets of geens you get a whole new set and you don’t know what will happen when they mix (my son has a rare genetic disorder and we do not). Please do not except what other people say without coming to visit us.

    HI:

I don’t know whether you get your dog or not but i would like to add something. I am definitely not related to Holly and i don’t know whether her dogs are pure breeds or not. But I got our Westie from Holly for 4 years ago as a birthday gift from my son. He was also my first dog (I am 41 years old, i know it is guite late). His name is ObiWan Kenobi. He is the “best” dog from the beginning that you can ever see. He peed the house only once (the day we brought him home for the first time), he damaged only “one” thing in my house which was a heel of my shoe (again 4 years ago). That’s it. For four years, we have no misbehaviour,no health problems at all. He has an amazing presence and charisma. He is very active and smart. He is very wise (hence his name). He was a perfect dog from the beginning. Everyone loves him in our neighborhood. We always joke around by saying that he must be a human. He understand even complicated comments. He has so many good qualities from the beginning that i can not even list here. So $800 was too much for me at that time (beacuse i was going through divorce and just bought a house etc.). But it was the best spent $800. I dont’ know Holly personally, but we got our perfect dog from her.
