Can West Highland Terriers run 2 or 3 miles? or will that over work them?
i want to get a Westie or a Cocker spaniel, i don't know what to get? i like to go running a lot can Westie's run 2 or 3 miles in 30 minutes, or will that over work them?
those two breeds, especially the westie, are not good running partners
if i was you and wanted a running companion i would look into a thin dog with long legs, like a greyhound body type, do some research on dog breeds who like to run
before you go out and buy a dog, please visit your local animal shelter, they have plenty of wonderful dogs who need a good home, and are generally cheaper than a breeder or pet shop, that's were i found my westie and border collie

Wseties -That's a bit too far & short time. They have short lil legs.
Cockers - aren't the high energy dogs.
Those are 2 entirely different types/personalities of dogs so you need to do more research into each one. Keep in mind cockers are high maintenance for grooming & for running you would have to keep clipped short or would be matted after runs.

it should be able to run that much, but take it easy the first couple times. Run just a little slower and if the dog stops or starts to walk just walk for a couple minutes but after it gets used to the schedule it should be able to run with you the whole distance.

Rhodesian Ridge back. Great dog for someone who likes to run. Great dog in general. Much bigger than a Westie or Cocker though.
Westies are high energy dogs, but 2-3 miles in half an hour is too much.

I had a Westie for 17.5 years. He was pretty laid back, running was not his thing but he was in great shape and we used to take him for long hikes each day, with breaks though, till he was about 13 yrs. after that only for 3-4 shorter walks daily. I also had an English Cocker they are a little bigger than the Americans and this guy loved to run next to my bicycle.
Poodles (standard or miniature) are pretty athletic, too. So are Jack Russels, it doesn't have to be a bigger dog for a running partner. Just check out the different breeds and their energy level and anatomy.
They have to be fully grown to go for longer runs though.
I have to admit our Westie was my favorite dogs ever.
