My West highland terrier is always trying to eat my Cockatiel! Mitzi (the dog) got the bird in her mouth and mum had to jump in and rescue her! i was wondering if their was any thing i could do to discourage this behavior and if any thing has worked for you?
Try to keep them separated, get a water bottle and spray your dog if it looks at the bird, get him to not want to be near the bird.

She is a terrier and they are bred to hunt small prey. This is instinct with her. Get the help of a professional trainer, this is not something you can do yourself. We are not experts on the forum, so what may work for one person, may not work for you resulting in the death of your bird.

Get one of those cages that hang off the floor or suspend it from the ceiling. Otherwise you can keep the bird in a separate room. Even if you rescue the bird, they die of heart attacks easily in situations like this, so you have to find a solution.
