i have just bought a westie, and have been advised to give him Ared Grange puppy food. However we dont know how much and how often we should be feeding him.

Why didn’t you get this information from the person you bought him from? What was he eating before, and how much?
You don’t want to suddenly change foods, because that will likely upset his stomach.

Feed him about once a day, not a ton of food, but about a (human sized) bowl full of food should be enough. He will eat when he wants to, so you can put the bowl in an area where he can easily access it.

I would feed the puppy two times a day because he is a small breed and because you can give him on in the morning and one in the afternoon without him needing to get up and potty.

Ask the breeder how much he was eating before, feed him three times a day and take the food away from him after every meal. If he is adopted ask your vet how much they prefer him to eat. If you are asking me I’d a half a cup. for a dog that small it’s enough. Give him that much if you are going to ponder before you ask.

Two or four is not a big difference, neither is that much better or worse if the breeder said two that would lead me to believe he has been getting 2 feeds which is fine for him to stay at.
Check the back of the bag for amounts… It will probably be less than a cup per day…that is a guess though my 45lb newf pup gets three and a half.

Sorry, the breeder you bought him from obviously didn’t have a clue! Is your puppy KC registered? There are so many badly bred, badly reared WHWTs out there!
A 10 week old puppy should be fed 4 times a day, reducing to 3 times at around 3- 4 months and twice a day at 6 months.
Hopefully, you have taken this puppy to the vet for a check up and s/he should be able to advise you on feeding.

It’s very true that pups should be fed small amounts and often. I would suggest either using the bag of food as a guide, and or reading their website, it should say by weight how much you should feed him, and split the total daily amount over 4 servings.

A good breeder should give you a diet sheet. A pup that age needs at least three small meals a day e.g. a sugar free baby rusk softened with water for breakfast, scrambled egg for lunch a small amount of arden grange for dinner. Over a period of time you can substitute the breakfast and lunch until at about 3-4 months he is eating dog food twice a day.Look how small he is and picture the size of his tummy.TINY You should have him checked by a vet anyway to make sure his health is good.

what was the breeder feeding him, and yes he should be fed 4 times a day, 2 times is not enough for a 10 week old puppy. when my dogs were pups they were fed 4 times a day until they were about 12 weeks, then they went down to 3 then they went down to 2 meals when they were 6 months old
