How Many Feeds a Day Do I Give My 3 Week Old Puppies?

I have 7 west highland white terriers. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow, and i was wondering how many times they need to be fed. My sister in laws dog had a litter of bull mastiffs ,and they were fed 6 times a day is it the same for my little dogs.
thay ae still with thier mum but they are starting to get thier teeth through and i need to start weaning them off her as they are starting to hurt her when they are feeding

Lol…Why do some people not read the question properly. I feel sorry for you getting stooppid people having a go about hand rearing pups etc when it is clear they are with their mum. I would imagine 6 times a day is fine, some of these feeds need to be from mum but you can supplement these with porridge oats and other weaning types of foods if in doubt give your vet a call they will be able to give u an idea of how much food to put down etc…
good luck ..they sound gorgeous. Let us know how they get on and when they go off to new homes!

    At three weeks a puppy still needs to nurse . I think its like between every 2-4 hrs

    i feed my 7month old staff 3 times a day.

    3 times a day perhaps but not too much food as they are only young ask a vet or someone if you need further help

    These puppies should still be breastfeeding they are too young to have been taken from the mother they should at least have benn with her until they are 7-8 or even 9 weeks old, how cruel that they are not getting the nutritiion they need, they may not survive without the breast milk. You really need to speak to a vet as handrearing them at this early age could be a disater if you do not feed them enough. Quick call your vet now and ask. good luck.

    I think feeding is basically the same for any puppy no matter what breed they are, I would feed them 3-4 times a day and just try to be persistant if they don't want to eat.

    they should only be partially weaned at three weeks let mum feed them in the morning then give porridge/goats milk and honey mid morning just before they are due to go back to mum and let her top them off repeat this four or five times a day making sure mum gives final feed at night…. as they get older you can add a meat meal in the routine then when they are eating on their own mum can be stopped feeding them during the day but let her in at night until they no longer want her milk as they are eating and drinking on their own …start by putting a little mixture on your hand in the palm and hold a puppy to it until they learn to lick and lap at it its no good just putting a plate in and hoping they will eat they have to learn to put their heads down to eat and not suckle..this takes a few days at least be patient if you do put the plate down all you will get is very messy puppies and they will just poo into it and roll around the pen…making a hell of a mess

    surely these dogs should still be with their mother! my dog died within a few weeks of having her pups you can buy a milk substitute from the vet, at this time it is so important that they develop with the right vitamins, after that I went to the chemists(s) and asked nicely for any out of date baby food, they gave them to me free when i explained what i wanted them for, having said that at the end of all this the despite my effort I had to give them to the RSPCA on the basis that there were nine of them and they all looked the blinking same and I never knew who'd been fed and who hadnt half the time. So I gave the nine dogs to the RSPCA who knew that I wanted one back, they advised not to split them up yet, so they rang when he was ready and they wanted a £120.00 for him, needless to say since he was a Heinz57, I decided to wait on principle! and now have two cockers, who have just brought half the garden in the lounge!!!!! good luck

    About 5 times and make sure their still nursing from their mum, you will prob have to do a night feed aswell enjoy the sleepless nights . Bet their real cuties.

    I have a litter of 3 week old bulldog babies and we are weaning them.
    They get Pedigree puppy porridge (weaning food with probiotics for pups) 3 times a day but mom is still feeding them as much as before.
    Wean them slowly otherwise your going to upset their tums and they will get diarrhoea and once pups get diarrhoea they lose weight and dehydrate and you could lose them.

    puppies take a lot of feeding in those first few weeks they will need fed little but often , but please dotn feed them regular dog or puppy foods this will scoure there little tummies , feed them such as porrage oats or scrambled eggs the run of the house chopped fine is far better for them , remember all pupies carry worms from there mothers milk so at 8 weeks worm them .but use a vets for worming tablets, store bought wormers dont work that well .neither do flea products . to ween the puppies from the mother buy some lactol pupy milk when there around 5 weeks old the mothers teets will soon become sore and crack when there teeth come through this can be costley to treat at the vets.so a light rub of vasiline hyelps the mom recover .bread yorkies for several years now so i been there . the scraps from the house meals are far less costley and better for the puppies to, you dont get fussy eaters in the puppies .
