We are looking to buy a West Highland Terrier puppy but would also like to stay for the most part local. We have a Westie named Molly and she has been part of our family for 10 years. We are only looking to buy a new puppy because our other dog of 8 years passed away recently, which is causing our Westie to mourn and become depressed. Thanks for the help!
Sorry to hear about your pup!! I know how heartbreaking it is. I would HIGHLY recommend contacting the Westie Rescue. They typically have puppies — and with the recent puppy mill bust, may have some now. If not, they will be able to direct you to someone. You CAN always get a pure bred dog from a rescue or shelter — and even if it is a states away, they have their means of getting the dog to you.

If you are determined to use a breeder, please check with the West Highland White Terrier Club of America who can direct you to a responsible breeder:

Please know that because of the economy, the shelters and rescues are overflowing with unwanted pets. It’s very, very sad! ONE DAY last week Indianapolis Animal Care and Control took in over 100 pets. If you would consider adopting from a shelter, the dog would love you forever!!

Again, your vet may have some names of reputable breeders in your area. Or do some research on the web. Sometimes a little travel will
be totally worth the trip in terms of obtaining the right pet for you.
