Westie Puppies

I am looking for a westie puppy, and I was wondering whether they were/looked reliable? Also, anyone who has reviews/who has bought from them/has complaints, please tell me what you think. I have included a URL here just incase some puppy experts want to take a look at it and tell what they think in terms of whether it looks reliable.

" Usually the puppy will ship within 7 to 14 days, but occasionally a puppy may need additional time with the Breeder before shipping." If they are ready to go they shouldn’t need another one to two weeks. Perfect Parvo incubation time btw.

"Temperament issues are not covered under this guarantee as they can be caused by a lack of training, discipline or proper dog socialization." yeah and they can also be due to BAD BREEDING!

Training has much more to do with the owner than the breed. The key is always exercise. Long walks tend to make a dog more relaxed and therefore much more responsive to training.

Dont just say food tell me what types of foods and vitamins are good for him.

The best thing I did. I signed my dog up and took her to training classes. It really does make them a happier pet if they have been trained to understand what is expected of them and what you are saying when you tell them something. But healthwise. The main thing you MUST do is keep up with heartworm meds. It is very important. Good luck with your new family member.

She is pure white and I’m having a hard time avoiding name suggestions with reference to snow, white, crystal, fluff, etc.

crate training is ok but the way i trained my pup to potty outside was to put a puppy pad next to the door (the door you would take the pup out to tinkle) and praise the pup when it goes on the pad. once ur furry friend knows that’s the right place to go it gets easier. when you see the pup head for the puppy pad catch its attention and take it outside. give lots and lots of praise (or treats) when the pup goes potty outside. he mite have some accidents along the way but b patient.keep the pads there for about a week. also it can b helpful to say go potty during the tinkle or #2 so they associate that word to going outside and the pup will eventually go on command! also an eating schedule is crucial for a puppy! you know when the pup eats than you ll know when it has to go (about an hour later). A crate for up to 25 pounds will do it.

However, there are plenty of Westies in dedicated breed rescue, do a search on the site below for breed rescue or clubs in your area. Club secretaries can adviser you where to find breed rescue .

I've read on a few web sites that westies can be difficult to settle with cats – any suggestions for small breeds that work well with a cat would be welcome. Thanks

You bet. I had 2 cats that were 9 years old and brought home a puppy. They will get used to each other. My dog loves cats now and tries to mother them. You just have to be patient, the cat will set the boundries for the dog. Good luck.

poo.Why does he do this and how can we stop him?We have had dogs from puppies all our lives but have never come across this problem before.

I know, gross huh? I've raised and shown dogs in obedience and show for 30+ years and after all those years with no problem, one of my dogs started to do that.
I also have a boarding kennel with a couple of dogs that as soon as they …poo, you'd think it was steak. Ugh.
All the crap (pardon the pun) that is supposed to help correct this, doesn't work. But here's what worked for me:
As soon as I let her out and she did her thing, she'd turn around to grab the poo and I'd yell "NO!" (I was inside, looking out the window with the window open so she could hear me.) You have to have good timing, as you don't want to yell at him and make him stop pooping (heh), so make sure it's when he is finished and starts eying it or going for it, that's when the "NO!" comes in. You can, of course, use the same method if you are outside with your dog. (In fact, those are golden moments. [g]) It didn't take too many times for my own dog to get the hint. Then: clean it up ASAP.
Now if this is something your dog does later, that is – not as soon as he poops – diligent cleaning up ASAP should also do the trick.
