It ranges from breeder to breeder, location to location. But in my experience any reputable breeder will not charge less than $600, for any breed of dog.

Information on West Highland White Terriers (Westies) ?
Thursday, February 18th, 2010how old do they have to be to be taken on a walk?
do they like to swim? in spas?
will they get lonely (male)?
will they run with you if you are jogging?
are they hard to train (sit, stop, come when called, potty trained)?
and any general things i should know. my puppy is 5 and a half weeks old, and i get him on the 20th of november ![]()
They should not be walked away from your home until they have had their third shots, about 12 weeks, depending on when the series was begun.
A spa has way too much chlorine for a Westie’s skin. They have super sensitive skin.
Yes, they are very lonely if left alone, but they don’t need a dog friend. They usually prefer to be the only dog in the family.
They aren’t great for jogging, as their legs are so short..But, they like short but brisk walks.
They are an easy breed to train, if you know what you are doing.
Congratulations!! on getting a new puppy.
Here are some good tips:

Westies are prone to allergies, so require a high quality food. Don’t feed anything with corn in it, and the food should have as little grain as possible.
Bathe only using a gentle soap. such as Nutrogena or pure castile soap. ( the clear bars)

Why Are My West Highland White Terriers Pulling Their Hair Out?
Saturday, December 26th, 2009I have 2 pure-breed Westies, and lately they’ve been pulling their hair out, a lot of the time until their skin bleeds. Also, my older one has black patches on the skin on her stomach. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
Unfortunately they are the number 1 breed for allergies & skin issues now that the breed has been so over & poorly bred. Your best option is to go to vet dermatologist for the best diagnosis & treatment. Until then only bathe in hypo shampoo so nothing bothers skin & switch food to one that is grain-free so if of the cheap fillers like corn, wheat can start to leave their body though it does take around 2 mo to fully leave.
West Highland White Terriers?
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009I have decided to get a Westie, and I am going to do a LOT of research but is there anything (good or bad) i should know about Westies? Thank you!!
Also, please don’t tell me I should get a lab or something cause my family and I have decided to get a Westie
We decided to get a Westie because they are supposedly among the hypoallergenic breeds – my adult son was very allergic to our Corgis, clouds of dog hair. We located a 4 month old male and I’ve loved him since the minute I first held him, he’s now 51/2 yrs. old; the female, now 41/2 years old also came into the house at 4 months old. I am crazy about these spirited, awesome dogs BUT:
1. Never let them off leash no matter how well trained and obedient they are, you’ll lose them at the first sightng of a squirrel or rabbit – these dogs are hardwired to hunt vermin;
2. The female has airborne allergies in the spring which once identified is managed without the regular use of steroids. Because I knew that this breed is prone to allergies/skin problems I opted not to feed kibble/canned food and they are both raw fed (BARF). Touch wood, no problems as yet with the male;
3. They need regular grooming; you don’t have to pay to have them stripped (it’s very expensive, I was quoted $85.00 each dog) unless you plan to show them. Their coats will be softer and curlyish if they are just trimmed.
4. It’s especially important with this breed to do dog training because they do tend to be on the obstinate/stubborn. Both are smart and were very easy to train.
5. Both were easy to crate train and have had the run my house without accidents since they were a year old. I have Christmas bells hung from the doorknob on the back door which they ring when they want to go out. Neither one was a chronic chewer or destructive and any time something was chewed it was my fault for leaving the closet door open. The female is a lapdog, the male more aloof but very cuddly at times. They are actually both very sweet dogs.
Knowing all of the above I wouldn’t hesitate to get another or ever regret getting my 2 Westies. Enjoy your pup.
How Big Are West Highland White Terriers at 8 Weeks?
Sunday, September 27th, 2009
standard goes by height not weight.
The ideal size is eleven inches at the withers for dogs and ten inches for bitches.
I am not that familiar with a wesie. I would say by weight it would probably be 2-3 lb.Not sure on height.
Are West Highland Terriers Good Pets?
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009I want to get a dog,and west highland white terriers are my favorite breed of dogs.Does anyone know the pros and cons of these dogs?
I’ve met someone at dog obedience class who has one and they found him to be very stubborn. I know they are very cute but this one was hard to train. The little guy weighed about 10 pounds but was harder to train than my 40 pound dalmatian.
I know they are prone to skin problems. They need to be groomed often.

Breeding West Highland White Terriers. HELP?
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009I live in Brisbane, Australia and I have a 2 year old West Highland White Terrier. I want to start breeding her in the next year. What should I expect and where do I start. She isn’t registered with the Canine Control Council yet should I do that first?
I’m sure everyone that breeds dogs has had their first litter so I’m just wanting to know if anyones got any tips or help.
Unless she was registered with the CCCQ at birth by her breeder than you can’t do it now. There is probably a good reason that she wasn’t placed on the main register to start with and may not be suitable for breeding.
If she was registered but as limited (cannot be shown or bred) then only the breeder can get that changed. The only thing you may be able to do is get it touch with her breeder and check.
I highly recommend that you look into this a lot more before you even consider breeding. Firstly is why? Wanting a litter because they’re cute or because you think it would be fun is not a good enough reason. The only reason that you should be breeding is to improve your own line of dogs and to try and better the breed.
** just be aware that there seems to be a bit of a puppy glut in Queensland at the moment. You may end up being left with a houseful of puppies.
