Some Key Benefits of a Citronella Bark Collar

While humans have been domesticating dogs for eons, you might be surprised to learn that dog owners have also been using dog collars since ancient times. Dog collars were used by the dog owners living in the times of ancient civilizations as Egypt, Greece and Rome. Dog collars provide several benefits, including the abilities to identify canines and to keep unwanted critters away. What can be the reason for an owner to upgrade his dog collar to a citronella bark collar?

All of us know about the dog collar and we also know that dogs bark, so how about a “bark collar”? This specific type of collar has the important function of modifying the dog’s behaviour. More specifically, it attempts to prevent dogs from barking too much, or at the wrong time. A bark collar contains two key components: a microphone and a battery. Through the microphone, the barking of the dog triggers the tool for altering the dog’s behavior. It’s important that bark collars only discourage improper barking.

Among the three main types of bark collars, the most popular is the Citronella Bark Collar. A can filled with a fluid whose main ingredient is the citronella oil is attached to this collar. This oil is naturally produced by different types of grasses. The oil helps to keep away various critters from your canine, including fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. In the same time, your dog also dislikes the scent of the citronella oil.

Following, we’ll see the three main benefits of the citronella-based bark collars;

1. They are safe for your dog The oil of citronella is not toxic for any living beeing. This oil won’t do any harm to your dog’s eyes or skin. In fact, most humans are also unaffected when they contact citronella.

2. They’re effective. The citronella bark collars are used to modify the behaviour of the dogs. The barking of the dog will be sensed by the microphone in the dog collar. Connected to the microphone, the can sprays citronella oil. Your dog will soon see the connection between its barking and the unpleasant scent from citronella oil.

The effectiveness of the Citronella Bark Collar was verified through scientific studies. One particular study by a university’s College of Veterinary Medicine discovered that such collars are effective in eliminating almost 90% of a dog’s unwanted barking. The satisfied owners already knew this.

3. They act in a humane way Many experts and dog owners consider that the most humane type of bark collar on the market is the citronella one. The dog will feel no pain when citronella oil is sprayed. This is a huge plus for the owners who are looking for an effective but humane anti barking measure. As our best friends, we don’t want them to be hurt.

Moreover, citronella is humane for insects too. You’re probably much more concerned about the safety of your dog, than the safety of an annoying flea or tick. But if you want to protect all animals, not only your dog, the citronella bark collar is a wise choice. While it repels insects, it doesn’t harm them.

How Long Should I Walk My 4 Year Old Female West Highland Terrier?

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Chloe is 4 and she is a west highland white terrier and is also a couch potato but she loves to be outside…so yeah…please help!

I would take her on about an hour a day walk. You can take her on two thirty minute walks or one long one. Also play with her in the backyard or at a park for more exercise. Good Luck!

What Would a West Highland Terrier Basset Hound Mix Look Like?

Monday, February 7th, 2011

And also it is the westie that is pregnant. Basset hounds are slightly larger, will this cause birth/ pregnancy problems?

Yeah – what WOULD a west highland terrier basset hound mix look like is about right.

The WOULD bit anyway,

Your dog might die trying to find out herself so best make arrangements for a c-section or at least get the vet involved now.

Totally irresponsible to allow this to happen.

Where Can I Find a West Highland Terrier Dog for $300-$350 in Vancouver Washington?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Im looking for a West Highland terrier Puppy. Any one know any web sights where i could find one?

You won’t be able to find one that cheap from a reputable breeder, so I would suggest a shelter. Go to http://www.petfinder.com to find one in a local shelter. There is also a Westie rescue, so you could try that too. http://www.westieclubamerica.com/rescue/

Never buy a dog from a pet store or a backyard breeder. Anyone who advertises in the newspaper is just a greedy, irresponsible backyard breeder; please don’t support them. These crappy breeders are the ones who really sell sick pups.

Don’t be tempted to buy a cheap puppy – there are far too many poor quality WHWTs being bred from and many have chronic skin & temperament problems. You will not get a well bred, healthy puppy if it is cheap!
The links to the breed rescue should be able to help you.

i need to know how much it will cost to support a west highland terrier foodwize.

If you buy high quality dry dog food in bulk, then you are looking at about £4.50 per week.

If you buy high quality tinned food in bulk you are looking at £7 per week.
