Sunday, January 17th, 2010hiya my dog died 6months ago and me and the family have now decided were ready for another gwjazpuppy..(yes i know it’l be hard)//
i had a beautiful lab he had a gentic problam hip AND Elbow dysplasi 2 seprate problams..anyway…i know y as i never cheked his prents hip or elbow scorses silly me.
anyway..a westi carnt get hip or elbow dysplasia what info do i need from breeder?..any papers?..a
and is it realy important that a dog is kc reg?..my lab wasnt..
arww every breeder on websites and ect for west highland terier..in leicester east midlands…just have pedagree to i need the hip scores even though they carnt get hip problams im very confused just wanna get a healthy puppy.

Any dog can get hip dysplasia i have a shih tzu with hip dysplasia
westies do get it
If you are serious go through the uk kennel club and get a list of reputable and knowledgeable breeders that produce high quality dogs
A reputable breeder will have genetically sound dogs they will also have KC registered the mum and the dad
they will also be able to go back many generations of blood lines as well on the papers
I don’t know about westies but i do of a reputable breeder through the kennel club that breeds shih tzus and her puppies as well as the parents are hip scored xrayed and looked at by a vet for any problems and are also wormed papered and have there first set of vaccinations
Information Needed on West Highland Terriers?
Saturday, January 16th, 2010My husband and I are looking to adopt a house-trained, fixed, male westie terrier, who’s owner no longer wants him 
due to a divorce. SO sad!! I have a toddler and expecting another baby in July. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this breed. I’ve always admired them, but have never owned one. My husband and I were both pound dog owners growing up, and we do not have any other pets. The owner said "han Solo" came from a very reputable breeder, and loves children and people because he has been around both so much. I am looking for added information in regards to adopting this type of breed, and what I could do to make his transition an easier one as he enters into our family.

westies are great and since they dont get to big there kid safe, i use to hav a pure breed westie but now i hav a westie border terrier mix, one thing about them tho is that there a tad hairy so if your kids have really bad asthma make sure u get him groomed and brush him daily or every other day. but other than that there energetic so they can be good entertainment for kids, and their a really smart breed and very easy to potty train it took me less than 2 months to train both of mines, another good thing about them is there not very common like pit bulls or yorkies,
as the dog enters the family just make sure to giv him tender love and care, also try treats for good deeds

The West Highland White Terrier Club of America has a breeder referral that lists two breeders in Missouri. They may or may not have puppies at the moment, but they could probably put you on their waiting list or help you find another good breeder. The club also runs a rescue, and you could also try looking in shelters in your area.
You might have to wait a while. Finding the perfect puppy can take time, but your patience will be rewarded.
Stay away from pet stores and breeders who advertise in the newspaper. These are bad breeders who just want to make a profit; they don’t care about the health of their dogs. If you buy from them, you’ll get a low-quality dog that might have serious genetic health problems.

How to Intoduce a Cat to a Puppy?
Saturday, September 19th, 2009My 11 year old cat is used to children and loves strangers. Though she doesn’t like it when someone younger is staying with us- she is a bit territorial. she is de-clawed, but she is very loved. she sleeps with us and demads cuddles. we got her from the SPCA, but we are getting the new dog from a breeder. The puppy is a west highland terrier. So it should be very freindly and it will not get much bigger than the cat. Though our cat is old she still acts like a kitten and is very playful. How should i introduce the cat and the puppy and how will my cat react?
ok i wouldn’t listen to fred at all…. but I’m sure you know that already. I’ve read that the best way is to have the puppy closed in a room (say a bedroom, closed to the rest of the house), and allow the cat to get used to the scent. After a while you can introduce the two together, but there were some other steps inbetween that i don’t recall unfortunately.

How much does it cost to get one from a breeder?
Do they bark a lot?
Will they jump on strangers?
Are they jumpy or will they just sit around with you and cuddle?
My 4 month old westie is super energetic.
She just wants to play almost all the time but when she is exausted from playing, she’ll sleep for hours.
Was really easy to potty train through, it only took a week.
She usually goes off to a corner or something and lies down. she’s pretty independent. Very intellagent but also very fiesty.

Anyone From SOUTHERN INDIANA Know of a West Highland Terrier Breeder?
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009We are looking to buy a West Highland Terrier puppy but would also like to stay for the most part local. We have a Westie named Molly and she has been part of our family for 10 years. We are only looking to buy a new puppy because our other dog of 8 years passed away recently, which is causing our Westie to mourn and become depressed. Thanks for the help!
Sorry to hear about your pup!! I know how heartbreaking it is. I would HIGHLY recommend contacting the Westie Rescue. They typically have puppies — and with the recent puppy mill bust, may have some now. If not, they will be able to direct you to someone. You CAN always get a pure bred dog from a rescue or shelter — and even if it is a states away, they have their means of getting the dog to you.
