My Westie will not defend herself. She is a gentle 10 yr. old female. She doesn't trust being in the same room with the cat.

maybe you could try and distract the cat, play with her/him, tie some elastic on a stick with a bright coloured xmas ball or bell on the end, the cat loves it, sounds like she wants the westie to play bless them both

We are serious considering getting either a puppy or a couple of puppies but before we decide we need to know if this breed is better kept as a single dog or if they are happier with a friend/companion. If they're better as a couple then are 2 females or 2 males better.

It is better to get one puppy at a time. That way the pup will bond with you better. If you get two they play and interact with each other more than you. You can get a second when your first is a bit older.

In our local animal rescue centre there is a litter of Springer Spaniel puppies. We are considering on getting a male and neutering him. BUT.. we own a nine year old female Westie dog. Would my Westie mind if we bought the pup or would she get angry and jealous?
Also we're considering on getting a fox terrie/jack russel puppy. He has a health problem to do with his growth so he will stay small.

I have an 11 year old male westie and 3 weeks ago i bought a cocker spaniel puppy. My old westie growled and growled on the first day but after that they got on fine. The puppy does jump all over him though and it can really bother him especially in the evening when he's tired. Never leave the two alone together and get a pen or crate to keep the puppy in at night and when you can't watch him.

There's lots of advice on here about introducing two dogs to another, but it's all individual really. Look up techniques and see what works with you and your dog. You know your westie best, in your heart of hearts you should be able to know how she will react.

As long as your pup is well socialized then there will be no problem when your dad returns.

Pick up a few books about puppy training, most of them will have the info you need to get through the troublesome times. I just got my first pup last year (Not my first dog though) and it was a challenge!

Westies aren't generally lap dogs, they'll cuddle up, sure, but they're high energy terriers so not quite what i'd call a lap dog.

we have found a westie breeder who is selling some of her puppies and she is selling the for £700 is that the right price or are we being ripped off should we wait for someone else selling some. btw the father of the puppies is a showdog

It all depends on the pedigree, but I have found accredited breeders from £300-£750. People vary the prices on bloodlines etc. You can go on the Kennel club website and find verified breeders.

I will probably get thumbs down now, but when I was looking for my Dobie, I looked for the rough price on EPUPZ then went to KC website and found the same verified breeder on there and he was recommended. My Dobie was up for £650 and I knocked him down to £500 as he knew the dog would be coming to an experienced handler and good home and probably knows that I will be back for another one lol (maybe he just wanted rid of me lol) . I wanted them all and if I'd had a farm and the money I would of took them all, that's after I saved the ones from the shelters, EVERYONE else.

I have just taken her on a walk - roughly 45 mins, and I have just noticed that the nail that is higher up on her paw (im unsure of what this iscalled) is bleeding. How has this happened and what should i do?

You or someone else may have cut your dogs nail to short and it started bleeding when she put pressure on it if so then there's a special type of powder for it!!!Hope this helped!!!

Since we rescued our dog in January, he's an 8 year old Westie, he seems to like fruits and vegetables more than chicken and beef!
The other night, I dropped an apple slice on the floor, with a piece of chicken, and he stuck his nose up at the chicken and got the apple slice!

Is this normal for dogs? I mean, he eats his meat and dog food, but he likes fruits way more!

Yeah I think it's normal. I have a 1 year old German shepherd female who is pregnant now and she loves fruit, salad, veggies, etc. She still loves meat and like normal dog food as well but she'll eat anything which I like in her. But my 2 year old German Shepherd Male will only eat meat and maybe 1 veggie and thats it. He only goes for the meat and stuff. It's totally normal, it's just that not everyone has a dog thats like that and no dog is retarted/stupid if it eats veggies, salad, fruits, etc.

Its perfectly normal.

Just like a flu jab in people, it can be sore afterwards and can also give them an upset stomach or headache etc.

It is PERFECTLY normal. As long as the dog eats 24 hours after its fine. If you are worried about him find his favourite food (even if its a bit naughty I.e a fatty treat) and give him some for strength.

Don't worry though, my dogs all do this everytime they have an injection of any kind. Only worry if he gets a terrible temperature or goes over 24 hours with no food/water.

I live in the UK where rabies has been wiped out in canines, however they do the same thing for their parvo-virus injections.
